Bodine was a five-man band in 1980!

Here's the scoop for all you Bodinists!

22 April 2011: In-depth research has revealed that prior to the release of Bodine's debut album, Bodine existed of five members. Indeed, there was a Mk-O line up. The evidence was found in a flyer written probably in 1980 (Dutch). It introduces the name of a second guitarist named Richard Cornelisse, who was 16 years when he joined the band. What ever happened to Richard after he left Bodine has to be found out yet.

New Insights

What are the concequences of this discovery? First of all: Bodine was in pace with most NWOBHM bands which in those days experimented with twin guitar line-ups. Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and UFO (to some extent) were among few bands that by the end of the '70s had two guitarists in their ranks. Saxon just had their first album out, and bands like Iron Maiden and Def Leppeard were yet to be discovered by a wide audience.

Secondly: the flyer known as the earliest document about Bodine thus far has to be dated earlier then previously assumed. Instead of late 1980, it must have been written in 1979.
Thirdly: Jay van Feggelen went by another artist name after he joined Bodine. Find out what name was made up for him by scrolling through the flyer (English)!

The flyer was found recently in the collection of drummer and founding member Gerard Haitsma. He made this document kindly available with a couple of footnotes. The Greek and American background of Rheno and Jay were made up in order to make the band more attractive to record companies and concert hall managers. The other issue that has to be read with a grain of salt is the role of Jay van Feggelen as a founding father of Bodine. Indeed, Jay came up with the name, but fact is that Gerard, Rheno and Armand had been playing together for several years prior to Jay joining the band.
